From Wedding Band to Broadband -- Bliss! Offers Streaming Video To Assist Bridal Couples Plan Their Dream Wedding
WOODBURY, NEW YORK (February 17, 2000) - Bliss! - The Weddings Magazine (www.blissezine.com) debuts Bliss! Video Vignettes - short, instructional videos that help any member of the wedding planning team plan the perfect wedding. At the brink of the new millennium, the cost of a wedding continues to rise. Each video instructs the reader on how to make a simple yet elegant bridal accessory that helps personalize the wedding without breaking the bank.
While under five minutes long, each instructional vignette gives step-by-step instructions on how to make a particular bridal craft. Each phase of the project is pictured and narrated by an audio track, giving the reader precise instructions and insightful hints. Bliss! is the first online wedding-planning magazine to introduce streaming video to its readers. "We recognize that many of our readers now have faster connections to the 'net, also known as broadband access, via 56K modems, ISDN, cable modems and DSL. Streaming video allows us to be on the edge of technology while at the same time offer content in a more entertaining and unique manner," says Cheryl Gabiola Galvez, Founder and Editor of Bliss!.
A reader must have the Real Player G2 Basic installed on her computer in order to view the streaming video. But the reader must not fret if she doesn't have the player or the bandwidth. Each instructional video comes with a corresponding text transcript with each step illustrated with the same color photo used in the actual video. "Not all of our readers have the player installed or they do not have the fast connection that streaming video needs. So as to not alienate these readers, we still offer the traditional way in which to bring the same valuable content to them," explains Gabiola Galvez.
As the vignette is downloaded, or streamed, the video begins to play. With streaming video, you do not have to wait until the entire file downloads to your computer. "We produced each video using a slideshow effect whereby each picture is narrated by an audio track. The benefit to the reader is that she will not experience the frame delay that usually comes with full-motion video," explains Gabiola Galvez.
As streaming video provides Bliss! a new way to serve up content to its readers, it also provides a new revenue model for the magazine. "Advertisers can place their banner at the top of the screen throughout the life of the video," explains Gabiola Galvez. "Our instructional vignettes 'marries' our content with bleeding-edge technology. We're very excited to offer this new opportunity that streaming video brings to our readers as well as to our sponsors. It's truly a unique way to 'broaden' our horizons." Puns intended.
